4. SSoA Department of Film
permeable performance space
This image was created by illuminating and photographing a scale model of the project, layering silhouettes and context on the top in Photoshop.
In my final year university project I fed some of these projection based influences into my work, designing a film department for The Sheffield School of Architecture. This included a permeable performance space flowing onto the street outside, where projections could be viewed from inside and outside the facade. Such fantasies imagined in my student work have been made all the more real by Goldsmiths’ Sonics Immersive Media Labs, facilitating complete audiovisual immersion. I’d be keen to test and perform projects within this space, where in previous years I’d been restricted by the environment and lack of technical knowledge.
Alongside this facility I’d like to become involved in the university’s vibrant audiovisual community, taking part in the creative collaboration described on the MA course to explore audiovisual projects further. From my experiences working in the architectural studio environment, I realise the importance of being in a creative space surrounded by others working on different but connected projects. Whether it is direct collaboration or more subtle inspiration, I look forward to the prospect of joining a new artistic community.
